The president of the regional institution highlighted the continued growth of the competition into its fifth year and explained it was "an extremely important element for projecting Córdoba internationally, a tool for the future and business growth,” and he added “it is one of the pillars of strength when it comes to promoting, but where production could not be lacking, with three offerings carried out in Córdoba." Animacor'09 will make up part of En Clave 16, a program of cultural activities promoted by the Córdoba Ciudad Cultural Foundation, which will be carried out over the course of 2009. The Foundation was created in 2006 by the City of Córdoba, the County Council, the Regional Government of Andalusia and the University of Córdoba, for the purpose of promoting the city’s candidacy as Cultural Capital 2016. During the presentation, the County Councilman of Culture of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Joaquín Dobaldez, recalled that “the formation and involvement of the public and private sectors are fundamental in boosting cultural industry and wealth.” This year, the prize-winnings amount to 42,000 €. The winners of the Official Competitive Section, in the categories of Full-length films, Short films and TV Series will also receive the traditional statue of the “Carrasquito”, which is in the shape of the competition's official logo. Some of the most notable awards to be given are the Special Award of the Children’s Jury for Best TV Series, to be awarded 3,000 € and the “carrasquito”, and the RTVA Award for Best Original Andalusian Audiovisual, in partnership with the Social Work of Cajasol, worth 3,000 € and a trophy. As a new feature this year, the number of venues for the Festival will be expanded beyond the Andalusia Film Archives and the Palacio de la Merced of the County Council Offices of Córdoba, to also include the Youth Hostel of Córdoba, where the workshops and course programmed for the Festival will be held. As a result of pushing forward the date for the call to entries of Animadrid'09 Competitive Section, there has been a significant effect on the number of international entries, which we believe will show an increase in the number of films received compared to last year. We already have a significant number of films in competition, and even though most of films received are short films, we also have several series and full-length films. The deadline for receiving films is set for July 31. In addition to the Competitive Section, ANIMACOR’09 will continue the matinee screenings at the educational centers of Córdoba and county, which have been very well received by children's audiences. In addition, we will feature the usual sections of films series to be screened as part of the Informative Sections and Parallel Activities, such as the instructional workshops, which explore the possibilities for new technology, conferences and the specialized programming of Anime. This year, the Festival will also dedicate a special slot for the world of video games. ANIMACOR’09 will also carry on with the characteristic that distinguishes it from other festivals, the 4th Multilateral Forum of Animation Coproduction, held on November 5 and 6. Lastly, the Festival is once again committed to the County-wide Tour of Animation ANIMACOR, which will travel throughout the cities of the province with an interesting selection of full-length and short films of national and international recognition. |
